Summer Updates and Feedback Tips

Hi Reader!

I hope you having a fantastic summer. Some of you I chat with regularly, while others it’s been months or even years since we last connected. I’ve always been about collecting great people in my life (and introducing them to each other). If you’re wondering, “How did I end up on this list?” It's because I respect you, have enjoyed our interactions, and want to stay connected. On that note, If you’d like to catch up 1:1, feel free to book some time for us here.

I just got back from an amazing time in Kauai and am gearing up for the NYC heat in early August where my mom is having back surgery. Less fun, but I’m looking forward to being there for her and spending time with my Dad.

Since leaving Pluto TV in 2017, I’ve been deep into executive coaching and leadership training. Nearly seven years and having worked with over 50 companies and over 1000 leaders later, I realized I’ve only sent out four emails to my list. People keep asking me to share my learnings in a newsletter, so I’m finally doing it.

I plan to send out a newsletter once a month to share leadership best practices, insights from my clients, and great resources I’m finding. If you’d rather not receive these, feel free to opt out here.

I’d like to take this first newsletter to update you on what I’ve been up to this past year and share some of my recent leadership development writing.

Tracy Podell Executive Coach I mean, it’s not. But you know how this goes. Blink twice and it’s Q4. Blink again and it’s holiday out-of-office replies and “wait, how is it already December?” And it’s been an incredibly unpredictable year. So it makes sense if your current strategy is just keep swimming and try not to drown. While I'm not advocating drowning, I do think it’s a good time to stop swimming (just for a moment) and hop in your imaginary (eco-friendly) private plane and zoom up to...

Tracy Podell Executive Coach Hi Reader, “I don't know what I'm doing.” About 15 years ago, I said those words behind closed doors at Pluto TV, where I was their Marketing Director. The product was breaking while I tried to market it. The data was unreliable, and I’d never led at this level before. I only had two years at an online video startup before this—and the Pluto “marketing team” was originally just me: no wise mentor, no roadmap. I said those words to a colleague one...

Tracy Podell Executive Coach Hi Reader, When I was 8 years old, I auditioned for my first talent agent. I sang "Castle on a Cloud" for the woman who would later represent Anne Hathaway. Her feedback to my mom? "She's too shy." As a driven kid, I was determined to prove her wrong. I learned how to transform from mumbling and looking at the floor to being "on" – making eye contact, projecting my voice, and owning my presence in a room. I didn't do it all the time, but I learned how to turn it...
